Contract Type Full Time - 39 hours pers week
Location Redditch
Salary Competitive — commensurate with experience
Start Date As soon as possible
Reports to Maintenance Manager
Closing Date Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

ABOUT PRE-MET:

Pre-Met Limited is a precision manufacturer based in Redditch, Worcestershire, with over 50 years of engineering heritage behind us. We produce complex metal pressings, stampings, wire forms, springs and weld assemblies for customers across automotive, aerospace, defence and industrial sectors.

Our press estate runs to over 80 machines — including Bruderer high-speed progression presses, Bihler multi-slide machines, Haulick & Roos blanking presses, Chin Fong and Worcester presses — supported by wire forming, spring coiling and weld assembly operations. We hold IATF 16949 and EN 9100 certification and supply some of the most demanding customers in our markets.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This is a hands-on, self-directed maintenance role at the heart of our production operation. You will be the person who keeps the presses running — responding to breakdowns fast, executing a structured PPM programme, and maintaining the electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems that underpin everything we do.

You will work across the full site — machine-side in the press shop, in the maintenance workshop, and across our site services and facilities. Most of the time you will be managing your own priorities and working without close supervision.

When something breaks, the production team are counting on you.

When nothing is broken, the PPM programme needs you just as much.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Fault diagnosis and repair on electrical systems — PLCs, VSDs, servo systems, safety circuits, three-phase distribution and machine control panels.
  • Mechanical and pneumatic maintenance across the press estate and ancillary equipment — clutches, brakes, feeders, pneumatic circuits, drives and associated systems.
  • Power press maintenance across our Bruderer, Bihler, Haulick & Roos, Chin Fong and Worcester machines — including guarding, clutch/brake systems, die protection and statutory inspection support.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance — working to a structured PPM schedule, updating the CMMS accurately and flagging defects before they become breakdowns.
  • Reactive breakdown response — attending machine-side promptly, communicating clearly with production on downtime, and getting to the root cause as well as the fix.
  • Site-wide facilities and services — electrical infrastructure, compressed air, emergency systems, contractor management and maintenance stores.
  • Coordination with Production, the Press Tool Room and Quality teams — communicating clearly, working collaboratively and knowing when to escalate.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

ESSENTIAL

  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification — City & Guilds 2360/2365, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent apprenticeship-served trade background.
  • Solid electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment — fault diagnosis on PLCs, drives and control systems without assistance.
  • Strong mechanical and pneumatic maintenance competence alongside your electrical skills.
  • Power press maintenance experience — working knowledge of guarding standards, clutch/brake systems and PUWER; experience with Bruderer, Bihler, Haulick & Roos, Chin Fong or Worcester platforms particularly valued.
  • Experience working to a PPM programme — self-managing, accurate record keeper, reliable
  • Able to work unsupervised and to communicate clearly with production teams under pressure.

DESIRABLE

  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Hydraulic maintenance experience.
  • CMMS / work order management system experience.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
  • Appointed Person — Power Presses (or working towards).

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • A permanent, full-time role in a stable, growing business with over 50 years of manufacturing heritage.
  • A varied, technically demanding role across a broad range of equipment and plant — no two days the same.
  • A supportive team environment where your skills are valued and your development is taken seriously.
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Company Pension, Death in Service, Access to GP support services, Holidays and Overtime arrangements.
